I mentioned week before last I was moving up from CA to Oregon to
become a telecommuter for RH. Nothing about my job will change and with
the transition of David from RHN -> Emerging Technologies there became
less and less reasons for me to pay the high cost of living in CA when I
was working from home 3-5 days/week.
I grew up in the Portland area so this is in a sense, a 'coming home'
for me. My wife is a California native but is excited to come up here
and entertain the possibility of a better living situation (read: we
would like more than 900 sq/ft please).
We had been planning this for a few months and got the final approval a
few weeks ago. Gave our 30 days notice to our landlord (thankfully we
had a month-2-month lease) and setup a date for the PODS shipping container:

Spend the week before last packing and getting ready to move.
Last Friday, the PODS container shows up to our house on the back of a
truck with this crazy lifting device called the "PODZilla (tm)":

and its lowered down in our carport area:

We spend the next few days loading and cleaning out the house.
Thankfully my in laws were around to assist (lunch break):

after much lifting and sweating we realized all our crap wouldn't fit
into the container. Unfortunately I had left a few of the bigger ticket
items for last (MISTAKE!) such as my bikes, our TV and a few bits of
furniture. After some last minute craigslisting to get rid of what
wouldn't fit we closed the doors on the POD and the guy came to pick it up:

Last Monday we headed up from the bay area to Ashland, OR. Got in late
at night and snapped a pic of our very confused dog:

Spent the next day driving up from Ashland to Portland. Was pretty
uneventful. Basically you get on I-5 near Sacramento and stay on it all
the way up to Portland. Picked up a few extra passengers on the way:

Pretty soon this will no longer be on our car:

We spent the last few days and the weekend recovering from the move and
taking a look at the areas around Portland where we want to live.
Thankfully the weather is still nice here (hasn't started raining yet)
and the views from my parents house have kept us relaxed about the fact
that we are technically homeless:

For now you can continue to reach me on my cell phone: 650-279-8371 and
I'll be logged into IRC and email throughout the day just like normal.
